Which construction template should I use?

Choose a template based on what you need to plan or manage. These construction templates are organized around the job in front of you, so you can grab one and go.

For scheduling: Start with a template that matches your project or planning window, such as a custom home build, remodel, master schedule, or 3-week lookahead.

For project management: Use templates for common construction documents like RFIs, submittals, change orders, daily reports, and punch lists.

Can I use these templates in Excel, or do I need construction scheduling software?

Both work. It comes down to how much the schedule will change.

Excel templates work well for a one-off document, a simple schedule, or a plan that won’t move much. The limit shows up when dates shift. If a two-week delivery delay pushes the job, you’ll typically need to update the downstream dates by hand.

In TeamGantt, you can link dependent tasks, adjust the schedule as the job changes, and see how those changes affect the rest of the plan. That makes it easier to keep everyone working from the latest schedule.

How do I turn a template into my own construction schedule?

Pick the construction template that fits your job best, then set your start date and work days. TeamGantt applies the template to your new project. From there, you can customize the tasks, dates, milestones, dependencies, and assignments to fit the job.

Can I share the schedule with my subcontractors and homeowners?

Yes. You can send subcontractors and homeowners a view-only link to the latest schedule without requiring them to create a TeamGantt account.

TeamGantt Builder Edition includes a client portal that lets you keep homeowners updated on progress without giving them access to the full project.

You can also ask subs to confirm their scheduled work by email or text, then track who’s confirmed right in TeamGantt. That means fewer Thursday-morning “where are we?” calls.

How detailed does my construction schedule template need to be?

Only as detailed as the job needs. A short remodel may need a relatively simple overall schedule. A custom home that runs for months will usually need more detail to keep dependencies, trades, and long-lead materials coordinated.

A master schedule can map the major phases, milestones, and dependencies across the full job, while a 2–6 week lookahead gives your team a closer view of the crews, deliveries, inspections, and handoffs coming up next. Start with what you need to run the job, then add detail where it helps.
